EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Armenian Minister of Internal Affairs discuss visa liberalization

Armenia’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Arpine Sargsyan, met with European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos.
Minister Sargsyan praised the close cooperation with the EU, which has been continuously developing and encompassing new areas, the ministry said in a press release.
Speaking about the EU visa liberalization process, Minister Sargsyan, who serves as Armenia’s chief negotiator, highlighted the work of the EU missions that visited Armenia, noting that their efforts would positively impact the course of the process. She provided details on the introduction of the biometric system, as well as the Armenian government’s steps in border control, the reintegration of displaced persons, and migration policy.
Commissioner Kos emphasized the ongoing reforms within the Ministry of Internal Affairs and reiterated the EU’s continuous support. She highlighted the EU’s support of over 200 million euros, which will cover several areas of cooperation with Armenia, including the EU visa liberalization process.
The Commissioner praised the Ministry’s role in the dialogue and stated that the Action Plan is now in its final stages.
Minister Sargsyan expressed gratitude for the AEGIS program, which involves a 4.5-million-euro investment for the modernization of the Rescue Service and Police.
The discussion also covered the ongoing reforms, the Resilience and Development Plan, and other matters of bilateral interest.
Both parties reaffirmed their readiness to continue and expand cooperation, as well as to work jointly towards EU visa liberalization.
