Armenian, Luxembourg prosecutors general discuss legal cooperation

As part of a visit to Luxembourg, Armenian Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan met with her counterpart John Petry on September 10, 2026.

According to a readout, Luxembourg’s Prosecutor General John Petry welcomed Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan’s visit, highly valued the level of cooperation established between the prosecution services of Armenia and Luxembourg, and noted that effective efforts to combat international and cross-border crime require close and continuous cooperation between prosecution services.

The Prosecutor General of Luxembourg expressed his readiness to contribute to expanding bilateral practical ties and intensifying joint work in areas of mutual interest.

Anna Vardapetyan congratulated John Petry on assuming the position of Prosecutor General of Luxembourg in 2025, highly valued the cooperation established with the Prosecutor General’s Office of Luxembourg, and discussed with her counterpart a number of issues related to international mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.

The sides emphasized that international legal cooperation between Armenia and Luxembourg in criminal matters is carried out within the framework of a number of international treaties, including in the areas of mutual assistance in criminal matters, extradition, cybercrime, corruption, and combating transnational organized crime.

The sides also addressed cooperation between the Republic of Armenia and Eurojust. It was noted that the agreements signed in 2024 have created new opportunities to make practical cooperation in combating cross-border crime more effective. In this context, the importance of coordinated interaction, as well as the holding of coordination meetings within the framework of criminal proceedings, was emphasized.

The areas of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia’s involvement in international professional networks and structures were also presented during the meeting. In particular, Armenia’s representation on the Executive Committee of the International Association of Prosecutors was highlighted, as was the Prosecutor General’s Office’s active participation in a number of professional structures of the Council of Europe.

The sides also discussed professional training conducted by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia and efforts to promote international and regional professional dialogue.

In this context, the Armenian Platform for European Prosecutors’ Dialogue (APEPD), initiated by Armenia, was presented. It brings together representatives of prosecution services of Council of Europe member states, as well as experts and senior officials from international and regional organizations.

It was noted that discussions within the 2026 platform focus on the investigation and prosecution of complex financial crimes, including criminal schemes carried out using cryptocurrencies and artificial intelligence, the effective management of confiscated assets of illicit origin, as well as the application of victim-centered approaches in the field of criminal justice.

Anna Vardapetyan and John Petry emphasized the importance of the continued development of the practical ties established between the prosecution services of the two countries and expressed readiness to further deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the sides reaffirmed the importance of strengthening international cooperation and exchanging experience in the field of criminal justice.
