Prime Minister meets participants of Prime Minister’s Cup cycling race around campfire

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met schoolchildren and physical education teachers taking part in the final stage of the Prime Minister’s Cup amateur road cycling tournament at the Arevik recreation area in Sevan, where he spoke with them around a campfire.

According to the Office of the Prime Minister of Armenia, Pashinyan welcomed the participants and congratulated them on successfully passing the regional qualifying stage and participating in the final stage. Nikol Pashinyan stressed that holding the Prime Minister’s Cup amateur tournament in various sports helps promote a healthy lifestyle among the public.

The tournament aims to encourage cycling and an active lifestyle among schoolchildren. Teams from Armenia’s 10 regions and Yerevan that achieved the best results in the regional and city stages will participate in the final stage of the tournament, scheduled for September 11-12. The final will take place along the 40-km Sevan Peninsula–Shoghakat road section. On September 11, the day before the race, a camp and a meeting around a campfire will traditionally be organised for the participants, while the final cycling race will be held on September 12. This year, the tournament is taking place during the Tour of Armenia international professional multi-stage cycling race.

The tournament is held in two age groups: students in grades 7-9 and 10-12. School teams that placed first in each age group during the regional and Yerevan city stages qualified for the final. As a result, 22 teams with a total of 66 participants will compete in the final stage. The school teams, students and physical education teachers finishing in the top three places in the tournament’s two age groups will receive cups, medals, certificates and cash prizes.
