Armenia is gradually increasing its capacity to inspect the quality of exported products, which facilitates the resolution of issues arising in this process, Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan has said.
Currently, some work remains to be done specifically in conducting licensed quality inspections of brandy in Armenia, he said.
It is expected that this issue will be resolved by January or February of 2026.
“We are continuously enhancing our laboratory capacities. For many products, these capacities have already been established in our country. For example, if a plant-based product undergoes testing in Armenia and receives a quality certificate, it can be easily exported to other countries. However, in the case of brandy, some work still needs to be done. According to preliminary data, by January or February, we will have a laboratory where isotopes will be fully tested, allowing us to determine whether the cognac was actually made from grape spirit or other spirits. Thus, the examinations currently conducted, for example, in Georgia, will already be carried out in Armenia. Naturally, this will enable immediate export,” the minister said.
He added that most of the existing problems have already been resolved.
The Minister expressed hope that the remaining challenges will be overcome once laboratory capacities are fully established. This requires some time due to the need for training and licensing of the relevant specialists, he added.
