Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin has indicated Moscow’s willingness for the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) to have closer ties with Azerbaijan.

The Eurasian Economic Union comprises Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.

Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), Galuzin said the alignment of Azerbaijan with the bloc would benefit Baku through expanded cooperation in transport, services, and investments, as well as access to the common market.

“We are ready to contribute in every possible way to Azerbaijan’s rapprochement with this integration union, as we believe that it will contribute to the further strengthening of economic ties in our common Eurasian space. Moreover, we believe that it will have a positive impact on Azerbaijan’s economy, as the country will gain access to the advantages of a common goods market and will be able to expand cooperation in the areas of transport, services, and investment,” NEWS.ru quoted Galuzin as saying.

He said that Azerbaijan, as a country bordering Russia, could become one of the important transport and logistics hubs in the broader Eurasian space. He emphasized that the Russian side aims to achieve harmonized and complementary connectivity of highways in the South Caucasus.

TASS separately quoted Galuzin as saying that Moscow wants to develop relations with Baku in every possible way.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova also stated that Moscow is committed to consistently developing the full range of bilateral ties with Azerbaijan.
