Erdoğan: Türkiye will continue to contribute to Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said that Türkiye will continue to contribute to the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Erdoğan made the statement during a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek, according to the Turkish Anadolu news agency.

The sides discussed Turkish-Azerbaijani bilateral relations, as well as regional and global developments, Anadolu reported, citing Erdoğan’s office.

Erdoğan said that under the current conditions in the region, the importance of steps being taken to enhance cooperation between Türkiye and Azerbaijan, particularly in energy, infrastructure and transport, has become more evident.

He said that deepening relations in all areas based on the principle of “one nation, two states” would benefit both countries.

Referring to the Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization process, Erdoğan said Türkiye will continue to contribute to the peace process, stressing that the establishment of peace will give new impetus to the development of the region.

During the meeting, the Turkish president also invited Aliyev to attend the COP31 summit to be held in Antalya.
