YEREVAN, JANUARY 19, ARMENPRESS: Turkish press presents the assassination of prominent Armenian journalist from Istanbul, chief editor of “Agos” weekly Hrant Dink in a light of nationalist action which has nothing to do with the state. Armenpress reports, candidate for historical sciences Gevorg Melkonyan has noted during January 19 interview with journalist that Turkish upper circles were well aware of the initiative of Dink’s murder.
“Dink’s murder was the logical continuation of Armenian Genocide, therefor I have to disappoint, because this murder is year after year more spoken about all over the world. I am sure that everybody understand that it was Turkish government which tried to keep Dink silent,” Melkonyan said, noting that the murderer was only 17 years old and wasn’t able to make such a serious decision all by himself.
He has assured that the majority of Turkish society knows about the fact of Armenian Genocide; it is not accidental that the majority of Turkish society rallied after Hrant Dink’s murder demanding its government to recognize the Armenian Genocide.
Candidate for historical sciences noted that Turkey was an unpredictable state which had a serious need for reforms.

Hrant Dink was shot dead in Shishli district of Istanbul on January 19, 2007. After leaving the murder shouted “giaour” giving basis for suspicion that the murder was committed based on nationalist hatred. Dink was one of those intellectuals, famous for their fearless speeches being numerously persecuted for that.
