Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan said on Wednesday that the Armenian Liaison Prosecutor will be posted to Eurojust in 2026.

She made the remarks at a roundtable discussion on cooperation between Armenia and Eurojust, organized jointly with CILC—the Center for International Legal Cooperation—an independent organization based in The Hague, Netherlands.

Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan welcomed and thanked everyone for accepting the invitation to participate in this important event for the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Armenia and for joining the roundtable discussion.

“The Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Armenia strives to ensure close cooperation with international and regional professional structures and to align the professional capacities, opportunities, and profile of the prosecutor with international standards," she said.

"The ‘Agreement on Cooperation between the Competent Authorities of the Republic of Armenia and Eurojust in the Field of Legal Cooperation in Criminal Matters’ between the Republic of Armenia and the European Union was signed in Brussels on April 5, 2024. Subsequently, a working arrangement was signed on the implementation of the ‘Agreement on Cooperation between the Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia and Eurojust.’

We have already completed all necessary internal legal procedures and plan to post a prosecutor to Eurojust in 2026.

I would like to take this opportunity to highlight our recently established, yet consistent and effective cooperation with the Center for International Legal Cooperation in the Netherlands. I also thank the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Armenia for its support of this initiative.

Special thanks go to our Eurojust partners for accepting the invitation and visiting Armenia. This is an unprecedented event in our country, and I am confident that it will further contribute to strengthening institutional relations with Eurojust and enhancing our cooperation.

By organizing this event, we aimed to familiarize representatives of domestic institutions with the main functions of liaison prosecutors posted to Eurojust —particularly in the context of combating transnational organized crime—before sending our liaison prosecutor to The Hague.”

Deputy Head of Mission of the Netherlands in Armenia, Thymen Kouwenaar, emphasized the importance of organizing such a discussion and noted that Armenia is an important partner for the Netherlands, adding that bilateral relations have elevated to the level of strategic cooperation.

Boštjan Škrlec, Chair of the Board of Relations with Partners of Eurojust, expressed gratitude for the invitation to participate in the working discussion and emphasized that Eurojust’s ‘journey’ with Armenia has been very effective and substantive.

Center for International Legal Cooperation (CILC) Eastern Europe & South Caucasus Project Officer Domenico Foti, Eurojust EU and International Affairs Legal Officer Florina Bisog, Ukraine’s Liaison Prosecutor Myroslava Krasnoborova, Norway’s Liaison Prosecutor Rudolf Christoffersen, officials from the foreign ministry, the justice ministry and the internal affairs ministry, and prosecutors from various departments participated in the discussion.

During the event, Liaison Prosecutors from Norway and Ukraine, the national member from Latvia, as well as representatives of Eurojust, will present the specifics and opportunities of working with Liaison Prosecutors.
