Americans charged in Armenia armed robbery case

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 7, ARMENPRESS: Juneau County authorities have filed three felony counts against a 25-year-old Wisconsin Rapids man they say was part of an armed robbery of a home in Armenia. Armenpress reports, quoting the Wisconsin State media, that Jeffery R. Lyp, whose name also is spelled Jeffrey in some court documents, is charged with being a party to the crime of armed robbery, being a party to the crime of armed burglary, possession of a firearm by a felon and misdemeanor counts of being a party to the crime of battery and being a party to the crime of misdemeanor theft.The charges were filed against Lyp on Friday, and Juneau County Circuit Judge Paul Curran issued a warrant for Lyp on Friday.

Authorities filed the same charges July 10 against Michael T. Edict, 24, of Menasha, formerly of Wisconsin Rapids.Curran issued a warrant for Edict on July 10. If convicted, both men face a maximum sentence of 66½ years in prison. According to the criminal complaint, on June 28, two men wearing bandanas and hats and carrying handguns entered an Armenia home through an unlocked patio door.

The two men ordered the women who were in the home to get down on the floor, according to the complaint.They then threw zip ties at the women and ordered them to secure their wrists and give them money and their purses. One of the women went toward the bedroom to comply with the men’s orders, and one of the men followed her.The woman swung around and attacked the man, temporarily getting the gun away from him, according to the complaint.

During the struggle, the man who remained in the living room told the other women to keep calm, and took one of the women’s purses, according to the complaint. The first man was able to get his gun back, but not before the woman had injured him and pulled the bandana down on his face, according to the complaint.The two men left with the purse, but the women saw both men’s faces.

The woman who attacked the first man was able to identify him as Edict from a group of mug shots investigators showed her, according to the complaint.She later identified him again and also identified Lyp from mug shots. Edict told authorities that he had gone to the residence because he thought there was heroin in the house, according to the complaint.He also indicated his handgun was thrown in the river, and the clothes he wore were destroyed.
