U.S. Vice President JD Vance said that “economic interdependence” is important for maintaining the peace deal between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Speaking to reporters at the Yerevan airport before departing to Azerbaijan, JD Vance described his trip to Armenia as "very productive".
“First of all, I want to thank Prime Minister Pashinyan and of course the President [Trump] for making a visit like this possible, I am grateful the President sent me here. But first of all for the peace deal that he has struck, and I think that prosperity is unlocking both for Armenia and the American people. We are excited to go to Azerbaijan from here. The part of striking peace is actually the first step, but part of keeping the peace is what we are doing today, which is building upon it, making sure we got the economic interdependence between Armenia and Azerbaijan that’s necessary to make the peace deal stick. But look I will say after having been on the ground for 24 hours, a very productive day, I feel very good about where we are, I think the President [Trump] struck a great peace deal and I think the administration is really making it stick, so I am glad to be here, and on to Azerbaijan,” JD Vance said.
