Armenian FM meets Latvia’s Saeima Speaker

Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ararat Mirzoyan met in Riga with Daiga Mieriņa, the Speaker of the Saeima, the parliament of Latvia.

Gunārs Kūtris, head of the Latvian legislature’s Friendship Group with Armenia, also participated in the meeting.

According to a readout from the ministry, the sides expressed satisfaction with the growing momentum in the development of relations between Armenia and Latvia. They emphasized the strong willingness to promote cooperation in areas important for the sustainable development of the two countries, including the economy and energy.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of the parliamentary platform in ensuring continued active cooperation between the Friendship Groups in the parliaments of Armenia and Latvia, as well as the consistent development of interaction in the Armenia-Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) format.

Minister Mirzoyan and the Speaker of the Saeima of Latvia also discussed the strategic agenda of the Armenia-EU partnership. Among other areas, they emphasized the importance of making the best possible use of existing mechanisms to strengthen Armenia's economic resilience.

The sides exchanged views on the dynamically changing regional realities.

“Establishing peace has created unprecedented opportunities for developing regional interconnectedness, and Armenia is making maximum efforts to develop its infrastructure network and effectively capitalize on these opportunities,” Minister Mirzoyan said.

They also exchanged views on issues related to the further institutionalization of peace and addressed humanitarian issues.
