Pashinyan says Yeraskh–Sadarak railway section inspected for reopening

Representatives of Armenia and Azerbaijan have studied the condition of the Yeraskh–Sadarak railway section with a view to reopening it, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during the government’s question-and-answer session, referring to criticism and concerns surrounding the TRIPP Development Company.

According to the Prime Minister, the government attaches importance to such comments and views them as a tool for review.

“That is why the document of August 8 was signed, and on January 14 a framework document was published on behalf of the two governments, in which the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia are repeatedly emphasized,” the Prime Minister noted.

Pashinyan stressed that TRIPP, despite its high political resonance, is first and foremost an investment program.

“This is, first and foremost, an economic program. If you follow the dynamics of the documents, you will see that the political component is gradually taking a secondary role, while investment and economic logic come to the fore,” he said.

The Prime Minister also recalled that last week representatives of Armenia and Azerbaijan conducted a joint inspection of the current condition of the Yeraskh–Sadarak railway section.

“If there had been no intention to reopen the railway, such an inspection would simply not have been carried out,” he noted.

Pashinyan emphasized that claims by opposition circles that the program does not contribute to lifting Armenia’s blockade or threatens its sovereignty are unfounded.

“These were the same concerns that we ourselves had at the beginning of the process, and it was precisely to address those concerns that we launched this process. Today, I can state that those concerns have already been addressed,” the Prime Minister said.
