“One of the first significant achievements in establishing peace,” – Armenian PM on commerce with Azerbaijan

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that the ongoing positive and constructive changes are creating new opportunities for all countries in the wider region and strengthening economic stability.
In his speech at the Eurasian Economic Union summit in Saint Petersburg, Russia, Pashinyan highlighted the prospects for developing cooperation in the field of transport and logistics.
Pashinyan attached importance to the recent first bilateral trade between Armenia and Azerbaijan, lauding it as “one of the first significant achievements in establishing peace and stability in the region.”
“Let me highlight the prospects for developing cooperation in the field of transport and logistics, based on the principles of reciprocity, equality, sovereignty and national jurisdiction. In this context, I would like to note that the positive and constructive changes taking place are creating new opportunities for all countries in the wider region, contributing to strengthening economic stability and expanding regional communications. In this regard, I express my appreciation to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for his decision to lift the blockade on the transit of goods through the territory of Azerbaijan to Armenia, as well as for creating conditions for the start of bilateral trade. This is one of the first significant achievements in establishing peace and stability in the region,” PM Pashinyan said at the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council session.
The train carrying over 1,200 tons of Azerbaijani fuel arrived in Armenia via Georgia on December 19, marking the first commercial deal between the two countries in decades. The fuel was bought by a private company.
Armenia and Azerbaijan initialed a peace agreement during a U.S.-brokered summit in Washington, D.C., on August 8, 2025. Lauding the establishment of peace, Armenia has expressed its readiness to formalize the treaty as soon as possible.
