Wizz Air expands Armenia operations with fourth aircraft, three new routes

Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air is increasing the number of aircraft based in Armenia to four. The company also plans to launch flights from Yerevan to three new destinations: Basel (Switzerland), Varna (Bulgaria) and Valencia (Spain), Wizz Air Chief Commercial Officer Ian Malin said at a press conference, noting that three flights per week to Basel (Switzerland) will operate from December 18, two flights per week to Valencia (Spain) from December 19, and the route to Varna (Bulgaria) will launch on June 6 next year.

“Wizz Air is one of the fastest-growing companies. We currently have 18 destinations from Armenia to 12 European countries. Before the arrival of the third aircraft in October, we are already thinking about a fourth aircraft. I am pleased to announce that the fourth aircraft will be based in Yerevan from December,” Malin said.

Malin also said that, after the fourth aircraft is based in Yerevan from December 17, flight frequencies on several routes will also increase. In particular, flights on the Yerevan–Prague route will increase to five per week, while flights to the German city of Memmingen will increase to four per week.

He said that Wizz Air plans to approach the annual 100 million passenger mark this year.

Malin noted that Wizz Air currently bases aircraft at 44 airports. Most of the company’s approximately 270 aircraft are A321neos, which are highly fuel-efficient. According to him, this is also important from an environmental perspective.
