Vice Speaker of the Armenian Parliament and Head of the Armenia-China Friendship Group, Hakob Arshakyan, on Wednesday received a delegation led by Su Hui, Vice Chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
The meeting was also attended by members of the friendship group, Andranik Kocharyan, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security Affairs of the National Assembly, and MPs Aleksey Sandikov and Gegham Nazaryan, the parliament’s press service said.
Vice Speaker Arshakyan welcomed the high-ranking guests and highlighted the prospects for deepening warm and friendly Armenian-Chinese relations, emphasizing the expansion of bilateral high-level visits. He noted trends in the development of bilateral economic ties and the significant increase in trade turnover in recent years, stressing the untapped potential in trade, economic, and energy sectors.
Arshakyan also highlighted the need to strengthen cooperation with China in the technological sphere, emphasizing opportunities within the “Engineering City” and “Academic City” projects. He added that Armenia is interested in expanding collaboration with China through multilateral platforms.
During the meeting, Vice Speaker Arshakyan presented regional challenges and reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to achieving peace in the region. He praised the recent meeting of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the United States in Washington, which resulted in the initialing of a peace agreement and the adoption of a trilateral declaration, describing it as a significant step in the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process. Arshakyan also noted that humanitarian issues remain unresolved, with 23 prisoners still held in Azerbaijani prisons. The delegation was briefed on Armenia’s “Crossroads of Peace” project.
Su Hui expressed gratitude to Hakob Arshakyan for the invitation and highlighted the significance of the 2024 visit by the Armenian Vice Speaker-led delegation to China. She described 2025 as a successful year for Armenian-Chinese cooperation, noting the announcement of a strategic partnership agenda by the leaders of both countries, which would open new avenues for collaboration. Su Hui also commended Armenia’s support for the “One China” principle and other related issues.
The sides discussed ways to further promote cooperation across multiple areas.
