Senior lawmaker says no objections from Iran on Armenian-American TRIPP project

Armenia and Iran are discussing all issues related to bilateral relations in a very good, friendly atmosphere, a senior Armenian lawmaker has said.

Chairman of the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee, MP Sargis Khandanyan (Civil Contract), said at a press briefing that Iran hasn’t expressed any objection to the Armenian-American TRIPP project after the latest discussions.

“After August 8, 2025, we heard certain concerns regarding TRIPP from officials from various circles in Iran. After that, negotiations took place, Armenia’s Deputy Foreign Minister traveled to Iran, discussions were held, and then the leaders of Armenia and Iran met. After that, official Tehran has not in any way, or in any form, expressed any objection regarding TRIPP,” Khandanyan said at a press briefing when asked about the matter.

He also added that the “Crossroads of Peace” project presented by the Armenian government, which includes the TRIPP project as one of its components, is also in Iran’s interest.

The Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) is a connectivity project in southern Armenia, envisaged under the U.S.-brokered Armenian-Azerbaijani joint declaration signed in Washington, D.C. The project is expected to unlock strategic economic opportunities, create long-term benefits by promoting infrastructure investment, and enhance regional connectivity. An Armenian-American joint enterprise is engaged in developing the route.
