IMF says US-China talks beneficial to global economy

Talks between the United States and China are beneficial not only to the two countries but also for the global economy, Reuters reported, citing International Monetary Fund (IMF) Communications Director Julie Kozack.

“Clearly, holding talks between the United States and China and seeking ways to resolve the differences between them is beneficial to both the United States and China, and therefore also to the global economy. We consider it extremely important that the leaders of the world’s two largest economies are meeting and discussing ways to resolve the differences or conflicts between them,” Kozack said.

Earlier, Chinese Commerce Ministry spokesperson Huang Lin said that Beijing and Washington were discussing a framework agreement on reducing reciprocal tariffs worth $30 billion.

US President Donald Trump, for his part, said that Chinese President Xi Jinping was expected to visit the United States on September 24.
