On the sidelines of his official visit to Brazil, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan delivered a speech at the Diplomatic Institute of Rio Branco.
According to the Foreign Ministry, FM Mirzoyan discussed Armenian-Brazilian bilateral relations, the cultural ties between the two nations, the significant potential for cooperation, the directions outlined following his meeting with the Brazilian Foreign Minister, as well as regional and global challenges.
“Armenia’s strategic relationship with South America, where Brazil is one of our key partners, is an important component of our foreign policy.
Over the past 34 years, our relations have evolved into a rich political dialogue, a mosaic of cultural exchange, and extensive cooperation.
Our partnership is built on shared democratic values. Armenia and Brazil, both with strong civil societies, uphold freedom, human rights, and the rule of law—principles that have been tested and reaffirmed throughout our nations’ histories.
Of course, there is also football—a universal language that unites us with great passion. In the 1990s, early 2000s, and even today, Armenian children and adults gather in front of their televisions, enthusiastically supporting Brazil’s legendary teams. Each World Cup victory has further imprinted Brazil in our collective imagination, making its name synonymous with joy and excellence. This shared passion knows no borders, sparking discussions in the cafes of Yerevan and the streets of Rio. It is a reminder that our ties are not only institutional but also deeply human.
Despite enormous challenges and ongoing security threats, Armenia remains steadfast in its commitment to building peace and prosperity in the South Caucasus. We firmly believe that peace has no alternative,” Mirzoyan said in his speech.
