Tehran slams Canada's participation in U.S. war on Iran

Iran's Foreign Ministry criticized Canada over its participation in the U.S. war on Iran, highlighting Washington's continued economic pressure on its neighbor.

"Washington calls Canada its 51st state; Washington imposes tariffs on Canadian goods; Washington insults Canada and threatens to punish it over wildfire smoke; Ottawa’s response: Understood, Sir! Meanwhile, Ottawa participates in the U.S.-led unlawful war of choice against Iran, to appease Washington! What's the reward? THIS IS NOT HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA; IT IS WASHINGTON'S FARM TEAM," Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said on X.

Prior to this statement, Canada had imposed sanctions on Iranian officials. On August 14, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand announced additional sanctions on five senior officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran, including members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, for their activities that have “threatened a critical international waterway, and obstructed navigation rights in and around the Strait of Hormuz, contrary to international law.”
