A Member of Parliament said Tuesday that the state duties for gambling activities will be raised in Armenia.
Hayk Sargsyan from the Civil Contract faction said in parliament that the decision has been made as a result of meetings between legislators and government officials.
The move will be made without restrictions of activities in the sector.
Gambling companies and bookmakers will pay twice the size of the current state duties starting April 1. The extra duties will be directed for state budget needs and capital expenses.
Sargsyan highlighted the importance of the legislative amendments not only in terms of increasing budget revenue but also mitigating “social harm” caused by the gambling industry.
