Armenian parliament to hold additional session amid committee chair elections

Armenia’s Parliament will hold an additional session from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Aug. 21, after lawmakers approved the proposal by a vote of 57-25, with 25 abstentions.

Parliament is currently discussing Liana Manukyan’s candidacy for chair of the Committee on Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs, nominated by the opposition Strong Armenia faction.

Strong Armenia had previously nominated Hayk Farmanyan for the position, but he failed to win the confirmation vote.

The faction must also nominate candidates for chairs of the Committees on European Integration and Territorial Administration and Environmental Protection. Its previous nominees, Arega Hovsepyan and Davit Ghazinyan, respectively, also failed to garner sufficient votes.

Nine of Parliament’s 12 committee chairs have been elected, with only the three committees for which Strong Armenia has the right to nominate candidates still without chairs.
