Strong Armenia nominates new committee chair candidate

The opposition Strong Armenia faction has nominated Liana Manukyan to chair the Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs Committee after its original candidate, Hayk Farmanyan, failed to secure enough votes in parliament.

Strong Armenia faction leader Narek Karapetyan said the faction is also seeking to nominate new candidates for the other two committees where its nominees failed to secure enough votes.

“Since the candidates we nominated were not elected, I think the problem is that we failed to present the issue to the public in a sufficiently thorough and comprehensive manner. We will make full use of the opportunity to speak,” Karapetyan said.

Farmanyan, Strong Armenia’s candidate for chair of the Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs Committee, received 40 votes in favor and 61 against.

Arega Hovsepyan, the faction’s candidate for chair of the European Integration Committee, received 40 votes in favor and 62 against.

Davit Ghazinyan, the faction’s candidate for chair of the Territorial Administration and Environmental Protection Committee, received 40 votes in favor and 62 against.

All three failed to secure enough votes in the confirmation votes, while all eight nominees from the ruling Civil Contract party and one nominee from the opposition Armenia faction were approved to chair other committees.
