YEREVAN, DECEMBER 16, ARMENPRESS. The first step of the re-elected chairman of the Artists’ Union of Armenia Karen Aghamyan will be the establishment of a fund, by which the union will try to help the needy artists.
“There are many important things to do. First of all we should help our friends. I try to create a mutual aid fund, as today we have many artists in need. Each of us must invest some amount to help them. The first step must be this,” Karen Aghamyan sated in a conversation with the journalists, “Armenpress” reports.
In the result of the voting on December 16-18 conference of the Artists’ Union of Armenia, Karen Aghamyan was re-elected the Chairman of the union. “Armenpress” reports that of 473 member participated in the voting, 319 voted in favor of Karen Aghamyan. Armen Atanyan is in the 2nd place with 34 voices, while Robert Ayvazyan received 25 voices. 95 ballots were recognized invalid. The election votes for the members of the union department will be calculated tomorrow.
Karen Aghamyan is an Armenian artist. Born in Yerevan in 1946, he has been a member of the Artist’s Union of the USSR since 1970 and president of the Artist’s Union of Armenia since 1988.
Since a young age, Aghamyan has also been influenced by art. He started drawing when he was four years old, and when he was five, Aghamyan attended the Children’s Art Studio. He graduated from Yerevan Fine Arts College in 1969, before becoming the head of the department of design in 1994. Aghamyan later continued to be a professor at the Yerevan Fine Arts and Theatre Institute.
Aghamyan has taken part in over 70 different art exhibitions, 11 of which were focused solely on him. His pictures are featured at museums in Armenia, Ukraine, Russia, France, and many more in international private collections.
Aghamyan's works are not traditional - they are reserved, evenhermetic. He searches, observes and mediates in different, quite unusual systems of expressiveness and the world becomes the object of his emphasized analytic attention. Aghamyan's compositions speak aboutsymbolismand abstractromanticism, expressed under a new light of emotional experience of space. Hispaintingsobjects and people are painted gracefully and coolly.
