The average life expectancy in Armenia has reached 78.6 years — the highest figure ever recorded in the country, according to Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan.
“Based on 2024 results, the average life expectancy has reached 78.6 years, the highest ever recorded. These statistics are usually summarized mid-year, so the 2025 figure is not yet available,” Avanesyan said at a press briefing.
The minister added that, thanks to systemic reforms and effective measures, maternal mortality has also decreased.
“In 2025, we had one maternal death, an unprecedented figure. As for child mortality, we were unable to meet the target set for 2025 for annual reductions. Several factors have disrupted our positive trend — we have seen increases in cases due to road accidents, poisonings, and deaths at home, which have affected the overall picture,” the minister said.
According to Avanesyan, reducing child mortality requires educational outreach with parents.
