Karabakh negotiation process was aimed at keeping Armenia trapped, says Pashinyan

Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan stated during the Q&A session with Cabinet members in Parliament that the Karabakh negotiation process had never been intended to resolve the Karabakh issue.

“The entire Karabakh negotiation process has never, not for a second, been about resolving the Karabakh issue. It has been about keeping Armenia and, in some sense, Azerbaijan as well, in a trap. It has not been about anything else. The process never had the goal of resolving the issue, but rather set the task of ensuring that the Republic of Armenia had no chance to become an independent state,” the Prime Minister said.

Pashinyan noted that although it is very difficult to admit this, it is impossible to move forward without acknowledging it. He reminded that he himself had said that Armenia had emerged from the geopolitical trap, considering the established peace.

The Prime Minister added that “all the concerns or formulations being voiced from a passionate patriotic perspective are about returning Armenia to that trap.”

“Today we are more of a state than ever, more sovereign than ever, more independent than ever. Today, the Republic of Armenia is experiencing the most promising period in its recent 500 years of history. We have never had a period when we had such confidence in the future,” Pashinyan said.

The Government of the Republic of Armenia published several documents on the Karabakh settlement negotiation process on December 2.
