Avinyan: Yerevan public transport sees biggest transformation in city’s history

Yerevan’s public transport system has undergone the biggest transformation in the city’s history over the past 3–4 years, Mayor Tigran Avinyan said.

Speaking at a City Council session, the mayor said that the past few years have seen changes to the fleet, the introduction of a unified ticketing system, as well as the launch of pilot bus routes.

“What has been done over the past 3–4 years in terms of public transport is of historic significance,” Avinyan said.

According to the mayor, around 600,000 validations are currently recorded daily on Yerevan’s public transport system.

“We have reached 600,000 validations per day in Yerevan today. Today, 600,000 passenger trips are made daily in Yerevan, and around 80 million drams [around $220,000] is collected. This is a record figure,” he said.

Avinyan added that electronic solutions have been introduced to the public transport payment system. “We have brought maximum transparency, maximum electronic solutions, so that payments can be made with Google Pay and Apple Pay,” the mayor said.
