Armenian, Belgian interior ministers discuss development of cooperation

Armenian Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan has met with Belgian Minister of Security and Interior Bernard Quintin in Brussels.
Quintin praised the collegial relations between the two countries and highlighted the need for continuously strengthening the ties, the Armenian ministry said in a readout. Minister Bernard Quintin reiterated Belgium’s readiness to enhance cooperation with the Armenian interior ministry.
Minister Sargsyan thanked for the reception and congratulated Quintin on his appointment as minister.
Sargsyan presented the main directions of ongoing reforms in the Armenian law enforcement system.
As part of migration policy, the current phase of EU visa liberalization process and actions aimed at project implementation were discussed, stressing its strategic importance in the context of Armenia-EU relations.
Opportunities to introduce effective mechanisms and exchange of experience in combating drug trafficking and organized crime were discussed.
Quintin accepted Sargsyan’s invitation to visit Armenia.
The need for involving liaison officers for increasing efficiency of cooperation and swift information exchange between the two countries was highlighted.
The sides reiterated the importance of organizing mutual visits between the ministries and expanding training programs for police and rescue officers.
