French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated that the European Union would benefit from a potential peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“We view the South Caucasus as a key region that connects the European Union with the East. That is why we want peace to be established between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” said the French Foreign Minister, noting that this position is driven not only by France’s longstanding and special relationship with Armenia but also by their interests.
“That is why we supported the efforts of the Armenian authorities to develop a peace plan, and why we supported the political agreement on that peace plan reached a few weeks ago,” he added.
Barrot emphasized that peace would create opportunities for both regional prosperity and closer integration.
“That is why we call on both sides to sign and ratify this agreement. On the basis of peace in this region, we can build a prosperous future and regional integration, from which both Armenia and the European Union will benefit,” he concluded.
