An Armenian ruling party lawmaker has introduced legislation seeking to ban gambling ads in hotels and border crossing points.
MP Narek Ghahramanyan from the Civil Contract party introduced his bill during the parliament session on May 7.
The bill envisages banning gambling advertisements, including internet gambling ads in Armenian border crossing entry points and hotel businesses.
The current legislation permits such ads in the abovementioned places and hotels that have a ranking of at least 4 stars.
The MP said that an increase of such ads in the abovementioned places has been observed recently.
“Turns out tourists or other persons visiting Armenia, upon entering the country, or at the airport, or other border crossing points, receive negative signals and develop an inaccurate information about Armenia and the Armenian tourism environment, which is then strengthened at hotels,” he warned.
If the ban is adopted, such ads will only be allowed on the official websites or offices of gambling businesses.
