Armenian-Azeri talks have always been bilateral, says Deputy Speaker of Parliament

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 24, ARMENPRESS. Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ruben Rubinyan has not ruled out that at some phase in the Armenian-Azeri talks there could be the need for a mediator in case of not succeeding in signing a peace treaty.

“I always answer to ‘is it possible’ questions with yes, it is, because everything is possible,” he told reporters when asked whether it is possible that the Armenian government could feel the need for a mediator if the peace treaty with Azerbaijan is not signed. “But at this phase the negotiations are taking place bilaterally,” Rubinyan added.

He said that so far, the negotiations format has always been bilateral.

“The delegations met in various countries. In the beginning of the meetings, the host country’s foreign minister said welcoming remarks, but during the negotiations the sides were alone in the room. It has been this way so far. Now I cannot rule out that someday the format could change. We don’t have limitations in this regard. It is a matter of pragmatism and practicality,” he said.
