YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 26, ARMENPRESS. The CIS Ararat Anti-Terror 2019 joint drills have been wrapped up in Armenia.

The final day’s exercise scenario was “surrounding and eliminating armed terror groups and stabilizing the situation”. As part of the scenario the Republican Center for Anti Terrorism Operation Management involved the National Security Service’s Border Troops, Armed Forces, Police force and other measures.

Ministry of Emergency Situations divisions were also involved for “liquidating the consequences of the terror act”.

The scenario of the drills was the following: “After conducting an anti-terror operation at the Gazprom Armenia building, the national Anti Terrorism Operation Management Center received intelligence that individual terrorist cells have breached the state border and are trying to leave Armenian territory. At the same time, the gunmen who are still capable of combat and haven’t managed to depart for the border are capturing a settlement with intent to ensure an unobstructed retreat from the country by using the local population as cover”.

The counter terrorism operation was developed for several sub-scenarios: 1) Search and Elimination of the illegally armed groups with the forces of a battalion strategic group (with participation of Armenian military divisions), 2) Conducting a joint combat cooperation by the military and police divisions aimed at the liberation of the settlement captured by the terrorists, 3) Elimination of gunmen and hostage rescue operation in an individual building with the forces of the LEOPARD police SWAT team, 4) Stabilization of the situation in the settlement and liquidation of the consequences of the terror act (with participation of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and Police divisions), 5) Combat operations for eliminating a large illegal armed formation (with participation of Armenian military, LFX), 6) Elimination of small illegally armed formations by the National Security Service’s Border Troops.
