His Holiness Aram I makes address at “Religious and Cultural Pluralism and Peaceful Coexistence in the Middle East” international conference

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 22, ARMENPRESS. His Holiness CatholicosAram I made a speech during an international conference in Athens.

“Armenpress” was informed about it from the official website of Catholicosate of Cilicia.

“The Middle East has become a region filled with anxieties. The anxieties that are provoked by external forces in favour of their geopolitical interests. These anxieties can find their thorough and consistent solution only through political processes with the participation of local forces and basing on the firm commitment of Christian-Islam coexistence,” His Holiness Aram I noted.

The internationalconferenceon “Religiousand CulturalPluralismand PeacefulCoexistenceIn the Middle East” was organized by Foreign Ministry of Greece and was attended by over 200 representatives: patriarchs, spiritual leaders, foreign ministers, ambassadors, representatives of international organizations.

The President of the republic launched the conference which succeeded by Foreign Minister’s speech.

His Holiness noted in his speech that external interventions prevented from finding solution to the anxieties of the region. Internal Islamic conflicts further escalated the ways of their resolution. Extremism has become one of the main reasons of the regional anxieties.

At the end of the speech he reminded that pluralism had always been one of Middle East’s most unique treasures and it should be preserved at any cost.
