The Central Electoral Commission acted strictly in accordance with the Constitution and the Electoral Code during the preparations for the June 7, 2026 elections, the voting itself and the subsequent process of summarising the results.
CEC Chairman Vahagn Hovakimyan made the remarks at the National Assembly in response to a question from Civil Contract faction MP Arayik Harutyunyan, who asked whether he felt any sense of guilt over the fact that two opposition factions are represented in Parliament, in the context of allegations of vote-buying.
“Today, we have in Parliament the balance and composition that the citizens of the Republic of Armenia voted for. Whether politicians, including the CEC Chairman, like it or not, this is the will of the voters of the Republic of Armenia,” Hovakimyan said.
He stressed that not only did he not feel guilty, but he was also proud of the results of the organisation of the elections and the process that had been carried out.
“Not only do I not feel guilty, but moreover, I am proud of the fact that in my contacts with international partners following the elections, I have heard only positive assessments,” the CEC Chairman said.
According to Hovakimyan, the shortcomings recorded during the electoral process were not exceptional and similar problems are also recorded in other countries.
“The shortcomings that occurred happen in other countries as well. We have a Parliament that was formed in accordance with the will of the citizens of the Republic of Armenia and whose composition is reflected in the lawful results of the vote,” he said.
