As part of her anti-domestic violence campaign, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s wife Anna Hakobyan has released another video, highlighting the negative effects of domestic violence on children.
Hakobyan notes that children growing up in an environment of violence may experience serious psychological, emotional and behavioral consequences.
Constant stress and a loss of a sense of safety can affect a child’s development, learning, socialization, interpersonal relationships and mental health.
The main message of the video is that domestic violence harms not only the person directly subjected to violence, but also children who live in such an environment.
“For the sake of our children, we must recognize violence, call it by its name and no longer tolerate it in our families,” Anna Hakobyan emphasized.
Hakobyan earlier called for domestic violence to be criminalized as a standalone offense and said Armenia needs clear, realistic, effective and victim-centered legislative and law-enforcement mechanisms.
