Armenia’s Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan visited the Central Electoral Commission, where she met with Commission Chairman Vahagn Hovakimyan.
The Human Rights Defender was accompanied by Tigran Gevorgyan, the second participant in the “On the Frontline of Human Rights Protection” project. Gevorgyan, who is actively involved in various initiatives, is particularly interested in electoral law and the rights of persons with disabilities, and stresses the importance of youth participation in public and democratic processes.
According to a statement released by the Ombudsperson’s Office, the visit included a tour of the Central Electoral Commission led by Hovakimyan. During the tour, the Commission’s main areas of activity, the specific features of organizing electoral processes, and its working conditions were presented.
During the meeting, Manasyan and Hovakimyan discussed a number of issues related to the protection of human rights in the context of electoral processes, including ensuring accessibility for persons with disabilities during elections.
Tigran Gevorgyan also had the opportunity to ask the CEC chairman questions regarding the organization of pre-election procedures, electoral process regulations, and measures aimed at ensuring public trust in elections.
Hovakimyan responded to the questions raised, providing details about the work of the Central Electoral Commission and the organization of electoral processes.
