Ever since Israel launched its attack on Iran on June 13, a number of Iranian analysts and experts have suggested that the Israeli government has used the Azerbaijani territory to conduct some of the airstrikes.
One of the analysts, international relations and South Caucasus expert Ehsan Movahedian, from Tehran’s ATU University told Armenpress that he has evidence substantiating the Israeli use of Azeri territory.
He said there are eyewitness accounts of UAVs crossing into Iran from Azerbaijan.
“Many analysts and military insiders emphasize that Israel has used Baku soil to launch drones and attack targets in Iran. Iranian air defenses in Bandar Anzali on the Caspian Sea coast also confronted a number of small drones two nights ago. Eyewitnesses in Pars abad, Moghan also reported that drones had crossed the border of the Republic of Azerbaijan into Iran. The F-35 fighter that attacked Iranian state television also intended to cross the border from Julfa,” Movahedian said in written comments.
According to Movahedian, Israel is using the territory of both Nakhchivan and mainland Azerbaijan.
In a post on X, the Iranian analyst shared images of what he described as the jettisoned fuel tank of an Israeli fighter jet discovered on the shore of the Caspian Sea in Ramsar, Iran. “You could think, isn’t Israel to the west of Iran? And what’s this doing on the north? You should ask Baku, because it is the second branch of the Zionist regime in the region. After solving the issue of the Israeli regime, the issue of the evil of Baku must be resolved too,” he said on X.
During a June 14 phone call with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, the Azerbaijani foreign minister Jeyhun Bayramov claimed that Baku won’t let its territory be used for attacks on Iran.
