Passage of EU bill highly likely, says Armenian PM

The Armenian parliament will highly likely adopt the bill seeking to launch the process of Armenia’s accession to the EU, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a panel discussion during the World Economic Forum in Davos.

“It was an initiative by the civil society, they presented the bill on launching the process of accession to the EU. Our government endorsed it, and there is high probability that our parliament will adopt the bill, which will mean that we are launching a process of being closer to the EU. Why do we want to be closer to the EU, because we are a democracy. When you are a democracy, you want to be closer to democracies, because the opposite would be illogical,” the PM said.

On January 9, the Cabinet approved the bill seeking to launch the process of EU integration. The bill, which is set to be discussed in parliament, was initiated by several civic organizations through a petition which garnered enough votes to be considered as a bill.
