Scope of Azerbaijan’s claims against Armenia stands substantially reduced, says Armenian representative after ICJ judgment

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 12, ARMENPRESS. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has ruled that it has jurisdiction to examine Armenia’s applications regarding murder, torture, inhuman treatment, forced disappearances and arbitrary arrests during and after the 2020-2023 wars, Armenia’s Representative for International Legal Matters Yeghishe Kirakosyan said on X, referring to the ICJ November 12 judgment.

“ICJ has no jurisdiction to entertain Azerbaijan 's claims concerning the first NK war for events that ended prior to September 1996, as well as claim relating to alleged environmental harm. The scope of Azerbaijan 's claims against Armenia stands substantially reduced,” he added.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has rejected preliminary objections raised by Azerbaijan in the case concerning Application of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD) in Armenia v. Azerbaijan.
