YEREVAN, JANUARY 10, ARMENPRESS. The midfielder of the Armenian National Football Team and Donetsk's "Shakhtar" was declared the best CIS football player of 2012. As reports "Armenpress" the Russian Sport-Express electronic periodical has declared the best football player of Armenia of 2012 Henrikh Mkhitaryan the winner of 2012 annual “Zvezda” contest. In accordance with the opinion of the jury consisting of 45 journalists, the Armenian football player has shown the best performance and results of the past year. The midfielder of the Armenian National Football Team scored 172 points. Alexander Kerzhakov, who scored 84 points and Igor Akinfeev occupied the second and third positions respectively. They are both playing in the Russian football clubs.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan currently plays for Ukrainian Premier League club “Shakhtar” Donetsk. As a member of the Armenian national team Mkhitaryan, participated in 33 international matches and scored 8 goals since his debut in an away friendly match against Panama on 14 January 2007. His previous clubs include Pyunik Yerevan, where he came through the youth system, and Metalurh Donetsk. Mkhitaryan was chosen Armenian Footballer of the Year in 2009, 2011 and 2012. He was also voted as the best Shakhtar player of 2011–12 season by the fans. In 2012 Mkhitaryan was named in UEFA's Top 100 players by UEFA European Football Yearbook 2012-13.
