Mkhitaryan was close to giving Inter 4-3 lead over Barcelona but VAR showed tight offside
2 minute read

Barcelona almost went 4-3 behind in the Champions League first-leg semifinals against Inter Milan when the Armenian football star Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored around the 75th minute only for the goal to be ruled out by VAR technology for a tight offside.
After the thrilling match Inter Milan's Mkhitaryan said he’ll be thinking about that goal for the rest of his life.
"How much will I think about the invalidated goal? Maybe for the rest of my life because we could have taken the lead at that moment in the game. I was offside by 3 centimeters. I'm sorry, but my head is held high. Let's hope we do well in the second leg and bring home a positive result,” Mkhitaryan told Amazon Prime Video Italia.
"It's a difficult moment, we're tired, but inside the locker room we know that we need that final push to avoid regrets,” he added when asked about the draw.
Asked about the second leg, Mkhitaryan said, "I can't say what Barcelona will be like, we can do better in dribbling and in the offensive phase. They are as strong as us, we have to recover well and then we'll think about the return match.”
Talking to TNT Sports, Mkhitaryan said “It was a crazy game … a great game to watch but not to play … it was very hard … we did our best … we could have done even better … we were leading 2-0 with 20 minutes gone, but it was not that we thought we’d won the game already … Barca put loads of pressure on us … unfortunately we couldn’t keep the 3-2 … but this is football … I feel very gutted [that his second-half goal was disallowed] … maybe it was two or three centimetres … but this is football … my will was too much that I wanted to score … maybe I rushed … maybe I have to score in the second leg, let’s see!"
The second leg match will take place on May 6.
