YEREVAN, JUNE 25, ARMENPRESS: the last England-Italy ¼ final match of EURO 2012 took place in Kiev “Olympic” stadium.
Armenpress reports that this match was considered both by fans and specialists as the most un predictable match of EURO 2012. Specialists considered both teams equal but the coaches had announced that they would play for victory.
Italy started more actively trying to open the score immediately. English players in response organized a very dangerous counterattack and Buffon saved Italy.
The match was rather interesting as both teams were trying to attack as soon as they got the ball. England was shooting from different distances but the shots were not interesting. The first half ended 0:0.
The second half started as actively as the first one. Both teams were attacking rather dangerous. Seeking for victory they tried to score goals but did not manage.
Not forgetting about extra time both coaches were not hurrying to make substitutions. The teams did not manage to score goals and they continued the struggle in “3rd half”.
In extra time Italy had great advantage, created many situations to score a goal but did not have enough luck.
The destiny of the match was decided by penalties where Italy defeated England 4:2. From England Ashley Young and Ashley Cole could not score a goal from a penalty shot.
In Semifinal Italy will play against Germany. The match will take place in “National” stadium of Warsaw.
