YEREVAN, JUNE 22, ARMENPRESS: Two-day training seminar dedicated to the third party participation in human rights constitutional and international procedures declared its launch on June 22.25 advocates and NGO lawyers partook at the event.
OSCE Yerevan office informed Armenpress that the event was organized due to the junctions of OSCE Yerevan office and Armenian Chamber of Advocates, aimed at strengthening the capacities of lawyers and civil society representatives in submitting amicus curiae summaries to Constitutional Court and European Court of Human Rights, which is additional means for the protection of human rights in Armenia.
Amicus curiae is a legal term which means "friend of court" and refers to the case when non-related third party voluntarily provides information on the disputed provision of law or other aspects of the trial court aimed at supporting the court to make the verdict.
The goal of the third party is to improve the efficiency of the court, bringing forth legal arguments, what kind of impact it can have on the people who are not related to the case.
Training seminar is conducted by London based “Interaids” organization international expert Podrig House and Armenian advocate Vahe Grigoryan.
The participants were presented Amicus curiae definition and concept. The role of the NGOs in the international and domestic judicial processes, as well as practical exercises are set to be discussed at the course of the seminar.
