Shikahogh has favorable conditions for development of ecotourism

KAPAN, APRIL 8, ARMENPRESS: An annual planting is being implemented in the Sycamore Park of Shikahogh state reserve. About 1500 Eastern sycamores and 600 Greek walnut trees have already been planted at 5 hectares area by a restoration program. A sanitary cleaning has been conducted in the area beforehand, the dried trees and branches have been taken away.

Director of the reserve Ruben Mkrtchyan told Armenpress that 7 200 Eastern sycamores and 1200 Greek walnut trees have been planted at the 15 hectares over the last 3 years. The reserve has its seed-plot which occupies a territory of 2 hectares. Here the number of plants reaches 26 thousand, and includes eastern sycamore, Greek walnut tree, American willow, etc.

The director assured that high-quality plants can be provided to those who wish to get them, their irrigation issue has been solved as well. In near future the personnel of the reserve will implement planting in administrative territories of nearby villages, too.

According to R. Mkrtchyan, in the recent years the number of the animals registered in the Red Book has considerably grown in the reserve. Here the growth of trees and the animal world creates favorable conditions for development of ecotourism. Some works have been implemented in the recent period for that purpose; routes of tourism have been worked out, posters and booklets have been published, and as a hotel for tourists can serve the administrative building of the reserve repaired recently.
