The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has condemned the placement by unidentified individuals of what the Azerbaijani side described as “provocative images” outside the guest house of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Russia on August 27.

According to APA, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said the incident could be aimed at artificially escalating Azerbaijani-Russian relations.

“It cannot be ruled out that this unacceptable provocation, in addition to seeking to artificially escalate Azerbaijani-Russian relations, is part of a biased campaign against Azerbaijan recently conducted by a number of Russian media outlets,” the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The ministry called on the relevant Russian authorities to provide a legal assessment of the incident, ensure a comprehensive investigation and take the necessary measures to prevent similar incidents from recurring.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry also said it expected Moscow to fulfil its obligations under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations to ensure the security of the Azerbaijani Embassy and its staff, as well as to prevent any actions that could obstruct the normal functioning of the diplomatic mission.
