Armenian Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan, currently in Greece as part of President Vahagn Khachaturyan’s state visit delegation, described the Hellenic Republic as an important partner for Armenia and said there is significant potential for bilateral cooperation.

Gevorg Papoyan noted that in recent years, positive developments have been observed in both investments and trade turnover.

“If we look at the overall structure of trade turnover, we see positive trends; however, our export volumes are still significantly smaller than imports. For this reason, considerable work remains to be done in this area. These days, we are holding meetings with business circles, and we will try, on the one hand, to attract investments, and on the other hand, to find new markets for exports,” Papoyan told Armenpress.

He also highlighted that tourist flows between the two countries have been increasing dynamically in recent years.

Referring to the process of unblocking regional infrastructure and the new opportunities this creates for economic cooperation with Greece, Gevorg Papoyan said that new avenues could open.

“One of the main obstacles to the development of trade and economic relations is closed borders. Unblocking roads and opening borders naturally brings Armenia closer to Europe, and in this context, we believe new opportunities are emerging. During the meeting with the Greek business community, we will pay special attention to this aspect,” the minister said, emphasizing that they are ready to discuss any initiative or proposal from Greek businessmen.

According to the minister, Armenia intends to deepen cooperation with Greece across all sectors of the economy.
