Deputy Speaker, Swiss ambassador discuss Armenia-EU ties

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Vahagn Aleksanyan held a meeting with the Ambassador of Switzerland to Armenia, Andrea Barbara Baumann.

“Switzerland is a development model for Armenia,” Aleksanyan (Civil Contract) said at the meeting, according to a readout.

“Our countries are parliamentary, and we highly value Switzerland’s commitment and experience in terms of parliamentary governance.”

The Deputy Speaker noted the development of relations between Armenia and Switzerland at various levels, emphasizing in this context the special role of parliamentary friendship groups. Both sides highlighted the dynamic development of relations between the friendship groups as important.

At the ambassador’s request, Deputy Speaker Aleksanyan addressed cooperation between the parliamentary majority and opposition factions and noted the priorities of the Civil Contract faction.

The Deputy Speaker emphasized the importance of parliamentary oversight in the fight against corruption. The reform of the Electoral Code of the Republic of Armenia was also identified as a priority.

The sides discussed a number of issues related to bilateral relations between Armenia and Switzerland.

The agenda of Armenia-EU relations was also discussed.
