Armenia, Iran discuss expanding economic cooperation

Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan met with Iran’s Ambassador to Armenia Khalil Shirgholami on August 25.

According to the ministry’s readout, the meeting addressed issues related to the development of Armenian-Iranian economic cooperation, the expansion of trade and investment, and the development of infrastructure and business ties.

Minister Papoyan said that the high-level political dialogue between Armenia and Iran should be translated into more tangible economic results by expanding the presence of Armenian products in the Iranian market and making more effective use of the opportunities provided by the EAEU-Iran free trade agreement.

The meeting also touched upon prospects for energy and logistics cooperation, as well as the possibility of long-term supplies of diesel fuel and liquefied gas.

Minister Papoyan proposed considering expanded cooperation in several key areas: expanding trade and Armenian exports, joint production and investment, energy and logistics cooperation, as well as the continued improvement of border procedures.
