Kazakhstan hopes for swift signing of initialed Armenia-Azerbaijan peace treaty

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has expressed hope that Armenia and Azerbaijan will swiftly formalize the U.S.-brokered peace agreement, which was initialed by the two countries in Washington earlier this year.

He made the remarks at an international forum in Turkmenistan, which was attended by Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan, Turkmenistan's President Serdar Berdimuhamedow, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, among others.

The forum is marking the International Year of Peace and Trust, the International Day of Neutrality, and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality.

"In our opinion, the signing of the joint declaration on peace by Armenia and Azerbaijan is of historical significance, opening up wide prospects for multilateral cooperation both in the region and beyond. We hope that the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan will be signed as soon as possible," said Tokayev.

The President of Kazakhstan also stated that the signing of the initialed peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan would guarantee stability in the South Caucasus region.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Uzbek leader Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov are also participating in the forum.
