Authorities reported late Thursday that the wildfires raging across several regions of the country have been fully extinguished, thanks to extensive firefighting operations.

The wildfires in the provinces of Gegharkunik, Tavush, Lori, Shirak, Kotayk, Aragatsotn, and Syunik, which engulfed grasslands, have now been put out, the Ministry of Interior confirmed in a press release.

Over 2,700 rescuer-firefighters were deployed to the affected areas starting November 21, when the first 911 call on a major wildfire was made in Gegharkunik Province. They were joined by volunteers, eco-patrol officers, Ministry of Environment personnel, police units, and staff from various government agencies. Additionally, 65 units of firefighting equipment, along with 260 units of auxiliary equipment and a military helicopter, were mobilized. The helicopter conducted 109 flights, dropping water and performing reconnaissance.

Although authorities did not specify the exact cause of the fires, they urged citizens to continue following fire safety regulations.

“To prevent possible fire outbreaks, the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Rescue Service will continue its supervision efforts. The Ministry also stresses the importance of strict adherence to fire safety rules and heightened vigilance. Any negligence or carelessness could have irreversible consequences. If fire or smoke is detected, we urge everyone to immediately call 911,” the statement said.

Towns and villages remained safe throughout the duration of the wildfires.

One firefighter lost his life, and four others were injured when their service vehicle crashed during the wildfire response efforts on Wednesday.
