Fatal vehicle crash claims firefighter’s life during Armenia wildfire response efforts

A firefighter-rescuer battling wildfires in Armenia’s Tavush Province died after a service vehicle crashed on Wednesday, authorities reported. 

The Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a statement that four other rescuers were injured in the crash.

The firefighter who died in the line of duty was Sergeant Taron Simonyan of the Lori Regional Rescue Department’s Vanadzor Fire-Rescue Squad No. 2.

The Health Ministry later reported that the four injured firefighter-rescuers were hospitalized and are in non–life-threatening condition.
